4th of July Injuries and Lessons learned

Do you know me? Then you know I like all things fire.

I grew up in Washington buying fireworks at the Indian Reservations. Where they had REALLY COOL fireworks. For days before and after the 4th I would seek out anthills and fill them with fire crackers. Goodbye Anties! M-80's were allowed in my young hands. Where were my parents?!

So I had a packet of fire-crackers in my hand on the 4th. I lit it. The fuse went fast, very fast. The lame part is I was holding the pack in the middle, on the fuse. I'm a few years out of practice. I singed my fingers pretty good. It was awesome. The smell of singed fingernails and flesh was oddly familiar.

Here's the really cool part. I wasn't wearing shoes, and was I going to stop lighting those fire crackers? No! The next packet went so fast, it fell apart - all over my foot. I thought I took some up-close shots, but I couldn't find them on the camera. So you'll have to look close at my foot in this dark shot. So there were I think, three firecrackers that went off on my right foot.

After that incident, my daughter Madelyn showed up in her sloshing boots. Apparently she didn't want any of the burnt foot action.

And here's the Dallin man with his Chinese Pagoda.

It was a good day. We all had various parts of us sun-burned from spending the day on the lake. Why don't they invent 8 hour sunblock?

You are crazy! I am glad that your kids are learning from you. :) What a party animal you are. Oh, all you have to do is put sunscreen on twice, once at the beginning and then a few hours later. Next time you should try it. I love you.
