Latest and Greatest

I never thought I would promote books on my blog. Everytime people mention joining book clubs or recommend books I should read I cringe inside. I'm picky, I have a strange sense of rebellion to the "crowd". I may be the only woman on the planet who has not read Twilight. I didn't even read Harry Potter - not a single one. Would I enjoy them? Maybe. But something inside of me fights against them. (Reference therapy session 187.)

Find me the lesser known, the delightful, the book that will change the way I view the world, my life, and others. Enter Ann Dee Ellis, enter Carol Lynch Williams. I was reading comments on Amazon for Ann Dee Ellis's "Everything is Fine" book. Some people loved it, others didn't get it, thought it was weird. Weird? Weird? The ironic part is I think those who felt it was weird are those who like to say, "Everything is fine." and ignore the difficult. I thought it was brilliant.

Of course these are authors that were at the BYU Writers workshop, and so I feel a strange duty to protect them, like they're my kids, or my sisters.

My daughter has not read the books I have, and probably won't for quite awhile. I've introduced her to Janette Rallison and Ann Cannon. Janette writes chic/lit, and Madelyn loves it. Just so you know, this girl has read the Eragon trilogy, all 9 Work and the Glory's, all of Shannon Hale's books, Brandon Mulls FableHaven's, and the list goes on and on and on.

The sad part is, I didn't know some of these authors existed. (I live in Idaho.) So I'm thinking some of you may not know them either. It's hard to become a household name if you don't write about vampires.

So go to your bookstores and ask for Janette Rallison, A.E. Cannon, Carol Lynch Williams, Ann Dee Ellis, and if you like CSI, Alane Ferguson. Almost forgot Louise Plummer.

I'm a shameless plugger now. What has happened to my life?

Jo! Thank you! I love all these authors, too--both as people AND writers. Ann Dee's newest book just blew me away. What a great voice.
